According to the internet and the book "Lost in the Woods", mother deer will "hide" their young fawns to protect them. While they are still too young to run away from predators, mother deer will find a safe spot to keep their fawns and with then leave them there. They are always nearby and keeping an eye on their babies, but keep away so that predators will not be attracted to the mother's scent. Apparently, fawns have no scent. (It also said that it was okay to touch them, but to leave them nearby so that the mother could find them later) Well, this year, a mother decided to hide a fawn in our backyard.
